1. About the TripTimes
The Triptimes Journey Planner is for users of public transport in Greater Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The system automatically calculates the best connections at the given date and time while minimizing the journey time and walking distance. It covers all of the bus operators who operate in Nottinghamshire.
Triptimes has been commissioned by Nottingham City Council and implemented by Infohub Ltd.

2. Entering origin and destination locations of the journey
- 'From' or 'To' boxes
The Journey Planner understands several types of locations. These can be bus stop codes (which can be found on the stop information plates - see right image), postcodes, addresses, suburbs or landmarks in Nottinghamshire. The Journey Planner will try to calculate best connections between buses and trams while minimizing walking and journey time
For instance, if you are traveling from Asda in Arnold, simply type "Asda"
in the "FROM" field. Because of the possibility of several locations having
the same name, as is the case with Asda, the Journey Planner will provide
you with a list of locations that closely match your input.

You can then select ASDA from a number of catergories with the most closely matched being highlighted. In the case of ASDA, these categories are PLACES-LANDMARKS, STOPS and ADDRESSES.

Check on Map button
If you want to double check on a map just click on the Check on Map button.
The system will display a map centered on the chosen location:

Cancel and Confirm button
If you think it is not the right location click "Cancel" and the system will allow you to choose another location from the drop-down list. Click "Confirm" if it is the right location. Also, you can use this screen to navigate around the area and possibly choose another location by clicking on the map.
The same procedure applies to inputting the destination you are traveling 'To'.

3. Interpreting results
In basic mode of journey planner, it will produce up to three journeys with different criteria - least interchanges, fastest or least walking journeys.
A typical journey plan looks like the following illustration:

- The header of the table summarizes the journey information: origin, destination, how long the journey will take, how much walking will be required and how many interchanges you have to make.
- This is then followed by details of each step of journey, which will either involve a walk, or the use of a bus or tram shown in icon form
- Map button - To see a particular leg of the journey on a map, click on the start or end location of that particular leg

- earlier/later button - if you want to depart at an earlier or later time click on the relevant button
- return journey button - if you want to plan the return journey click on the
and re-input the time you want to return and press 'Find'
- Advanced Options button
In Advanced Options the user has access to controls that allow tuning Triptimes to the user's personal preferences. These additional controls are only available in advanced mode of Triptimes. In addition to special controls in advanced mode the user is given an opportunity to specify a "via" location, but this information is optional.
In advanced mode there are four options available for tuning as shown below

- Journey optimization option allows you to choose whether you prefer to arrive to the destination sooner even if it involves longer walking or changing services, or you do not mind longer journey but you prefer to have as little walk as possible.
- Walking speed option allows you to tell the system how fast you can or prefer to walk. There are 3 options available: fast, slow and average walking speed. This option will have a strong influence on making connection between services.
- Using walking information option you can choose how the walking information is to be displayed. You can either see walking distances, walking time (depending on your walking speed)
- Interchange margin sets a minimum time needed to make a connection between two bus or tram services. The bigger the margin, the more likely it is to successfully make a connection. But smaller margins can lead to better journeys and shorter journey times.

- If you know your favourite stop code just insert it in the box and press 'Find' but if not either look at the bus stop flag (as shown) or put in the street name or landmark and select the stop from the list.
